SUMMERVILLE, SC — When a South Carolina mom recently posted a picture to Facebook of her daughter celebrating her second birthday, her joy and pride were quickly corrupted by the depravity of online strangers.

Mariah Anderson, 2, suffers from Chromosome Two Duplication Syndrome, which impairs her learning and motor skills.

“I never thought in a million years that I would be sitting here trying to give Mariah’s story like this because of the negative.”

According to WCBD, after Mariah’s mom proudly posted a picture of her party, Mariah became a viral sensation for all of the wrong reasons.

Because of her appearance, the photo was reportedly shared thousands of times and turned into memes. Some online trolls compared her to a monster, alien, a leprechaun.

“The smile that you guys think is funny or the smile that you guys are comparing to a leprechaun, or the smile that you guys are comparing to all this disgusting thing like the things that you are saying about my child… she is not a monster. She is not fake. She’s real. She is here,” said Mariah’s mom.

“If you’re out there and you’re doing these things, and you think that it’s funny, it’s not funny,” said Linda Pringle, Mariah’s grandmother, “This is actually a human being, this is a child, this is a baby.”
