KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Residents of a Kansas City, Mo. apartment complex were evacuated from their home early Monday morning after a fire broke out in the back of the apartment complex.

According to KCMO fire spokesperson James Garret, the fire began in the garage on the backside of the apartments located at 11513 N. Oak Trafficway.

When crews arrived on scene there was heavy smoke coming from the garage area.

Garret said the apartments were evacuated because of the threat of the fire spreading to them.

FOX 4 has a crew headed to the scene.
