Clay County sheriff’s deputy involved in three-car collision

SMITHVILLE, Mo. — A Smithville sheriff’s deputy is in the hospital following an early morning accident.

Police said that the officer and his vehicle were involved in a three car accident.

The driver of one of the vehicles was arrested at the scene, according to a tweet from the Clay County sheriff. Police said the driver was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated.

Missouri State Highway Patrol is still investigating the collision.

According to police no serious injuries have been reported. The deputy was taken to the hospital as a precaution.
