KANSAS CITY, Kan. -- One person is dead following an accident early Monday morning.

Police said the accident occurred near 18th and State Avenue around 1:30 a.m.

According to police, the driver's Honda Civic hit a telephone pole and then knocked the pole over.

The driver of the vehicle was dead when first responders arrived on scene, according to police.

Police have not yet released the identity of the driver but did say the victim is a man in his 20's from KCK.

No other vehicles were involved in the accident police said.

Police said they suspect the driver was driving at a high-rate of speed prior to hitting the pole.

"There was a very good chance that speed was involved judging by how far the skid marks go," Officer Amber Hickerson said.
