INDEPENDENCE, Mo. -- A 21-year-old man appeared in Jackson County court for the first time Monday on charges related to a deadly hit-and-run on Friday night at 24 Highway and Blue Mills Road in Independence.

Michael Theron Stockbridge

Theron Stockbridge is accused of killing Aaron Overman, 34, of Buckner, Mo. Overman's family describes him as a hard-working postal worker who loved his family and going shooting.

Police said Stockbridge hit Overman's truck from behind while he was stopped at a red light.

Stockbridge's family said he left the scene because he was driving his uncle's work truck and panicked.

Stockbridge is due back in court April 15. He is being held on $100,000 cash only bond.
