KANSAS CITY, Kan. -- Police have issued an arrest warrant for a man they believe is responsible for a rash of burglaries and assaults at Woodview Apartments. Friday, Wyandotte County prosecutors charged 33-year-old Adalberto Mata-Beras with rape and aggravated burglary. People who live in the complex said they are relieved to know charges have been filed, but will not rest easy until police catch the suspect.

“It fires me up inside, I am not very comfortable with what all is going on here,” said Matt Alexander, who lives in the complex. “It’s a little bit uneasy.”

Police said Mata-Beras is a Hispanic man who is about 5’7” and weighs around 170 pounds. They said he has brown eyes and black hair.

This is not Mata-Beras’ first run-in with the law.

According to prison records, he served time in the Kansas Department of Corrections between July of 2009 and September of 2011 for a felony drug conviction and misdemeanor weapons conviction. Records show both of the crimes occurred in Wyandotte County in November of 2008.

“I have gone ahead and purchased a security camera so that’s the first step I have taken so far,” said Alexander.

Police said Mata-Beras is considered armed and dangerous and was last seen in the area of 11th and Greely Avenue. If you see him call 911 or the TIPS Hotline at (816) 474-TIPS.
