Suspect in custody after fleeing the scene of an accident in Overland Park

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. --  Emergency crews were on the scene of a car accident in Overland Park, Kan. early Monday morning.

According to Lenexa police, they tried to stop a vehicle for suspicious activity near 77th and Quivira, but the vehicle did not stop. Police said they did not pursue the vehicle but later heard reports that it had crashed into another vehicle near Interstate 35 and 75th St. around 5:30 a.m.

The driver of the vehicle that police tried to pull over fled the scene on foot, according to police.

Police said they have since located the suspect and arrested him. The suspect was then taken to the police station for questioning.

The ramp from 75th St. to northbound Interstate 35 was closed while police investigated the accident but has reopened.

According to the fire department two people suffered injuries during the accident. One was minor and one was moderate. Both of the victims are expected to recover.
