KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- A Buddhist lama, or a teacher that has achieved a level of honor, turned in a substantial amount of firearms to the Ad Hoc Group Against Crime on Friday. The guns will now be destroyed.

Lama Chuck Stanford said the guns were given to him by a friend, and he wanted to ensure the guns would never be used for criminal purposes.

Kansas City Police Dept. representatives from the Kansas City No Violence Alliance (KC NoVA) were at AdHoc, 3116 Prospect Ave., to take custody of the weapons.

Police encourage others to do what Lama Stanford did. When they have unwanted firearms, perhaps when a family member dies and leaves behind firearms, they ask residents to call 816-234-5000 or the patrol division nearest them to arrange for officers to take custody of the weapons for destruction.
