INKSTER, Mich. — A Detroit-area woman is 116 years old.
Jeralean Talley of Inkster is celebrating her latest birthday Saturday. She doesn’t have a formula for longevity. She tells the Detroit Free Press: “There’s nothing I can do about it.”
The Gerontology Research Group considers Talley to be the oldest person in the world, followed by Susannah Jones of New York state, who turns 116 in July.
Talley bowled until she was 104 and still likes to catch fish. A daughter, Thelma Holloway, tells the Free Press that Talley still has a sharp mind.
She was born in Montrose, Georgia, in 1899 and moved to Michigan in the 1930s. Talley’s husband died at age 95.
Her birthday will be celebrated twice this weekend, including a party Sunday at her church.
