BUCHANAN COUNTY, Mo. -- Prosecutors allege that a 69-year-old man extensively communicated over the Internet with a girl he believed was 13 years old, and on May 30 traveled from Kansas City, Mo., to St. Joseph to have sex with her. Thomas R. Demark faces one felony county of attempted enticement of a child, according to a probable cause statement.

A Buchanan County sheriff's deputy states in court documents that Demark drove that afternoon to an arranged location near the area of S. 36th Street and Pickett Road after days of communicating with the victim. He's accused of instructing her to delete their conversations, where they explicitly discussed having sex.

Demark allegedly had a backpack with lubricant, condoms, sexual devices and a pistol inside when he traveled to St. Joseph. While court documents say he walked with this backpack from his car to the victim's home, there is no mention that he made contact with her or that any sexual encounter happened.

Demark was arrested on May 31 at a home in Kansas City where police say he attempted to access the pistol during his arrest. He has posted a cash bond of $10,000 and is currently on house arrest according to online court records. He had a preliminary hearing scheduled for Monday, which was continued and is now scheduled for June 25.
