OLATHE, Kan. - An Olathe man is charged with aggravated assault after police say he shot a gun near crowded softball fields. It happened at the Olathe Girls Softball Association fields at 151st and Pflumm Saturday afternoon.

Police say people reported hearing two shots fired. Police arrested 61 year-old Richard Hastings. Dan Eakin, who's been in charge of the fields for decades, says people who were at softball games that day were shaken up.

"Just to hear something like that, you know, you just never think about it," said Eakin.

Eakin says nothing like this has ever happened in the nearly 30 years the fields have been open.
According to the Johnson County Jail website, Hastings is out of jail. Some witnesses say they believe the incident was the result of a family-dispute.
