KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Police are investigating after a mother and her infant son were shot while sleeping inside their home on the east side of the city. Police were called to The Heart Mobile Village early Saturday morning.

"Just pray, just pray he is alright," said Beuleh Adkins, the grandmother of the victims.

Adkins said her granddaughter got on top of her son to try to prevent the one-year-old from being shot but he was anyways. Police said the two victims are in stable condition.

Adkins said her great grandson was shot in the stomach and had to get his appendix removed. She said her granddaughter was shot twice in the leg. She told FOX 4 her granddaughter's boyfriend was also inside the trailer but wasn't shot.

It's unknown right now if the suspect(s) drove by the home or if they were walking. Police haven't released any suspect information. If you have information call the TIPS Hotline at (816)474-TIPS.
