OVERLAND PARK, Kan. -- Police are investigating the death of a man found early Wednesday morning in a parking lot in the 7100 block of West 75th Street.

The mobile command center is parked in the middle of the parking lot at The Roxy bar. Police were initially called out at about 1:30 a.m. for a disturbance.  When they arrived, they found 24-year-old Olathe resident Jurl L. Carter in the parking lot, already dead.  Witnesses say he may have been shot up to three times in the chest. The suspect left the scene in a "big, red truck" according to police. He's a heavy-set, black male, who was wearing a blue shirt.

It's not clear if either man was inside the bar before the shooting.

The owner of the bar, Jim Kilroy, says all summer they've had "Hip Hop" night at the bar, and that they've had no problems.

"It happened on the other side of our dumpster," said Jim Kilroy. "I didn't really see anything happen."

"It did seem very kind of unreal. When I saw these guys, their car back away, I heard the pop-pop-pop of the gun, and it didn't seem like it was really happening," Kilroy said.

This is the fourth homicide in Overland Park in 2015.

Police will be looking at surveillance video from area businesses. If you have any information that can help them, call the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-8477.
