KANSAS CITY, Mo. — There’s a lot of excitement about the 2015 Chiefs season, especially after the team looked so good winning all four preseason games and went on to defeat the Texans 27 to 20 in the first game of the season. But for fans who plan to head out to the first home game of the 2015 season or celebrate Red Thursday there are a few things you might want to note.

First, there will not be a Red Thursday pep rally, but  FOX 4 will have a pregame celebration starting at 4:30 a.m.. X-Factor, Chiefs cheerleaders and KC Wolf will all  be present to celebrate the home opener. The Kansas City Symphony, who is doing the National Anthem at Arrowhead Stadium, will also be out on the front lawn.

Red Thursday

As part of the Red Thursday celebration fans also had the opportunity to purchase an exclusive Chiefs Kingdom flag at all area McDonald’s locations or on street corner locations throughout the city for a minimum donation of $5. The net proceeds will benefit the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Kansas City.  Last year, the flags raised $135,000 for RMH Charities of KC.

"It's a partnership we've had for the last several years," Chiefs chairman and CEO Clark Hunt said. "The Ronald McDonald house provides a very important service to those families that are struggling with children with cancer, and we feel very blessed to have better able to partner with them, raise money for them, help them build an additional house here in Kansas City."

Parking

The parking lot opened at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday and general gates into the stadium opened at 6 p.m. Club level ticket holders (the Scout Investments Club Level) will be able to enter the stadium starting at 5 p.m.

New this season, fans can no longer pay $30 cash at Gate 5. Fans must have a prepaid parking pass. Fans can pay cash at every other gate.

Traffic in the complex will move counterclockwise, and they were asking tailgaters to keep all equipment within eight feet of the back of cars to keep the aisle clear for other cars.

This year Arrowhead will be implementing the "clear bag policy" in an effort to get fans through security faster. Women are allowed to bring a small clutch purse, but other belongings must be placed in a one gallon Ziploc bag.

Small cameras and binoculars are allowed, but you can't take cases in with you. The Chiefs also allow you to bring hand-held radios and TVs in with you. You can also carry in small bottles of water that are sealed and seat cushions.

Construction

Construction continued near the stadium, as well on Thursday. Below is a statement from the Chiefs website regarding traffic and construction:

Stadium Drive Eastbound Traffic: Fans traveling eastbound on Stadium Drive must turn right on Raytown Road. Motorists with a parking pass will be directed to Gate 5 and those with cash will be directed to Gate 4.

Manchester Trafficway Southbound Traffic: Fans traveling southbound on Manchester Trafficway will be able to turn left onto Stadium Drive or stay straight which becomes Raytown Road. Fans who stay straight onto Raytown Road and have a prepaid parking pass will be directed to Gate 5 and those who are paying cash will be directed to Gate 4.  Those that turn left onto Stadium Drive will be directed to Gate 6.

Raytown Road Northbound Traffic: Fans traveling northbound on Raytown Road must turn right onto Stadium Drive.

Fans are always encouraged to leave early to give themselves plenty of time to get to seats so they don’t miss any of the action on the field.

The Game

For those who were looking for an excuse to sneak out of work a little early on Thursday there was an excuse note which Chiefs coach Andy Reid posted on social media. It was a letter to your boss asking for you to be excused from work on Thursday. It says "We need all of Chiefs kingdom to pack Arrowhead Stadium and make it loud."

During the game the Chiefs also debuted their new touchdown song, which fans had been voting on since August 21. The Chiefs announced on Wednesday that the song will be “Hey, Kansas City!” by David George and A Crooked Mile. The song won the competition with 45.9 percent of votes.

"First and foremost, it is an honor to even be considered for this opportunity. To then have the Chiefs fans vote for “Hey, Kansas City!” to be the new touchdown song is unimaginable,” George said. “I am overwhelmed and humbled by the endorsement of the great fans who voted for the song and I am extremely appreciative of their support!"

“Much of the feedback we received from Chiefs fans was that they wanted to retain the feeling and intimidation factor that comes when 75,000-plus fans chant in unison,” Donovan said. “Because the fan chant is not part of the Gary Glitter song and was added by Chiefs fans, we asked David George to incorporate that element in the beat of the new song. We think this addition to the new touchdown song will deliver that traditional aspect of Arrowhead touchdowns that our fans love.”

David George & A Crooked Mile performed a free concert for Chiefs fans in the Ford Fan Experience at 4:30 p.m. on Thurs., September 17, before kickoff.

Fans had the opportunity to choose between the following songs:

  •  “Hey, Kansas City!” by David George and A Crooked Mile (45.9%)
  •  “Song 2” by Blur (22.2%)
  • “Let Me Clear My Throat” by DJ Kool (31.9%)
