KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Two sheriff's deputies who saw the deplorable conditions inside a metro puppy mill are stepping up to help the dogs they rescued

Detective Penny Cole and Sergeant Glen Postlethwait adopted two of the dogs they helped rescue from an Oak Grove puppy mill last month.

The dogs were living in filth and many suffered injuries.

"There were so many of them and they were in such horrible conditions, but there's just something about them, even though they looked miserable they were happy. And we just wanted to give her the chance.”

There are still about 15 of these dog up for adoption.
