1) NO ESCAPE (R)

The Weinstein Company
RUSS

It’s unlikely that the Southeast Asian chamber of commerce will be using “No Escape” as a promotional vehicle. Owen Wilson and Lake Bell play an American couple who take their two young daughters to an unnamed nation only to land smack dab in the middle of a bloody revolution.

SHAWN

Among "No Escapes" many issues and flaws is that it has severe adrenaline issues. There is just too much going on and none of it makes any sense.

RUSS

This savage drama almost becomes violence porn. The ethics of this thriller are dubious at best.

SHAWN

No, just dubious. I mean Owen Wilson is likable and watchable. But you really have to question the filmmakers motives with this one.

2) RICKI AND THE FLASH (PG-13)

Sony Pictures

SHAWN

Yes, Meryl Streep can do wrong. And this not very funny comedy proves it as she plays a rocker who returns home to make right after chasing her dream of rock and roll stardom.

3) SHAUN THE SHEEP (PG)

Studio Canal

RUSS

“Shaun the Sheep” is a beautifully animated stop-motion feature based on the British TV series. There’s virtually no dialogue in this story of a sheep’s adventure in the big city, so it’s as close to a silent film as anything you’re likely to see. Like Shaun himself, it’s a charmingly light bit of fluff.

SHAWN

"Shaun the Sheep" is fun. It's unconventional fun but entertaining none the less. I am a sucka for stop motion animation. Not everyone is. But I love the old-fashioned vibe and charming tone. Go Shaun!

4) AMERICAN ULTRA (R)

Lionsgate Films

SHAWN

"American Ultra" is daring, cool and explosively entertaining. It's a uniquely original action thriller and the most refreshingly different love story I've seen in years. And it works because Kristen Stewart and Jessie Eisenberg, a stoner who in fact is a highly trained government agent, are incredible together. Their chemistry is off the charts.
