KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Fox 4's film critics reviewed the films "Amy", "Mississippi Grind", and "Goodnight Mommy." See what Russ and Shawn thought about the films coming to DVD.

RUSS

Before she became a breakout star, the uber-talented but self-destructive singer Amy Winehouse said, “I don’t think I’m going to be at all famous. I don’t think I could handle it. I would probably go mad.” Those words proved to be tragically prophetic.

SHAWN

And this documentary does a terrific job of retelling her story as Amy Winehouse became a once in a generation star who blew it all with her self-destructive behavior. But man is this documentary engaging as is it's subject.

RUSS

The intriguing documentary “Amy” presents a heartbreaking account of her short life captured mostly through a rich mine of home video, interviews and news footage. “Amy” is a painfully intimate portrait of an extremely fragile soul.

SHAWN

Much like the documentary  "20 Feet From Stardom" a couple of years ago "Amy" brilliantly uses music to help tell the story. It's a sadly dark story but respectfully told. Sure it's a much more engaging watch if you are a fan but overall it's a documentary that gives you a true sense of her bittersweet journey.

2) MISSISSIPPI GRIND (R)

RUSS

In the comic drama “Mississippi Grind,” Ben Mendelsohn plays a gambling addict and Ryan Reynolds is a free-spirited wanderer who stakes him. It’s a smart, well-written and beautifully acted character study.

3) GOODNIGHT MOMMY (R)

Radius/TWC

RUSS

Creepy, unnerving and brutal, "Goodnight Mommy" is a German horror film about twin boys who become convinced that their mother, home in bandages after facial surgery, is actually an imposter. The tone of dread builds slowly but surely as the plot twists and turns. Don't watch it just before bedtime.
