KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Jackson County Executive Mike Sanders plans to resign at the end of 2015. Sanders says the job was taking a toll on his family and that he made the decision after his father's recent death.

Sanders says he could return to practicing law. His last day is December 31. Sanders was elected to be Jackson County Prosecutor in 2002. He was elected Jackson County Executive in November of 2006, then re-elected in 2010 and 2014.

Voters will pick a new executive next year.
