Man, woman dog forced from home after early morning fire

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- A man, a woman and their dog were forced from their home Thursday morning after a fire broke out.

The fire errupted at a ranch-style home near 39th and Arlington just before 6 a.m.

Crews say the fire started in a bedroom that is in the garage. The garage had been sealed off and converted into a bedroom.

Fire investigators say the husband woke up after smelling smoke and hearing a crackling noise. The man his woke his wife and grabbed the dog, and the three were able to escape without any injuries and call 911.

Firefighters were able to contain the fire to the bedroom.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

The Red Cross will help the man and woman find a warm place to stay.
