KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- One man is dead and two others, including a police officer, are injured after an accident early Monday morning. Police identified the victim as 42-year-old Johnny Wilson of Kansas City, Mo.

Investigators say Wilson was heading east on I-70 around 12:15 a.m. when he lost control of the Suburban he was driving near the Blue Ridge exit.

His SUV hit a concrete barrier, either flipped or rolled over in the westbound lanes and caught fire. Wilson was ejected and ended up on the shoulder.

It's not clear why he lost control of his SUV, but sources on the scene tell FOX 4 that he was on the phone with his girlfriend at the time of the crash.

Then as an  officer was heading to the scene, a woman in a small SUV rear-ended him. Both were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The officer was treated and released.

Eastbound and westbound I-70 were closed for four hours while crews investigated the scene and worked to clear debris.

This is an ongoing investigation.
