35-year-old Mo. man charged with shooting dog then setting it on fire

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- A Springfield, Mo., man was charged on Monday in connection with the recent death of a dog.

Nathan L. Bumgardner, 35, faces charges of animal abuse and unlawful use of a weapon.

According to deputies, Bumgardner got into an argument with his girlfriend Thursday evening about their black Labrador dog.

Bumgardner's girlfriend told authorities that following their argument he shot at the dog several times before it died. Then he allegedly put the dog on top of a brush pile and set it on fire to dispose of the dog's remains.

Bumgardner's in custody on a $15,000 bond.
