INDEPENDENCE, Mo. -- Using the the hashtag #PetsDeserveBetter, the Great Plains Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) posted to social media a picture of a dog named Lucky who came to them with gunshot wounds to his face and body.

According to the no-kill animal shelter, Lucky was abandoned in a home where the floors were covered in feces.  Lucky and another dog had eaten through doors to try to find a way out.  Eventually, they broke through a glass window and ran onto a property with livestock, where they were apparently shot by the owner.

Great Plains says Lucky is in a lot of pain, while his partner is recovering at the Independence Great Plains campus.

As always, the expenses to treat Lucky are mounting. Great Plains asks those who can to make a tax-deductible donation toward his care.
