FAIRLAWN, Ohio -- A woman in Ohio is celebrating both her 93rd birthday and her high school graduation.

Seventy-five years ago Dorothy Liggett-Houston was expelled from high school during her senior year.  She had secretly gotten married during her senior year and when she discovered she was pregnant a few months later, school leaders told her she couldn't come back. She was never allowed to graduate.

She went on with life, had five children with her military husband, but wished she had received her diploma.

Now she has it.

This week, the Akron School District awarded her an honorary high school diploma.

“What does it mean to me? It is wonderful to have it. Even though I am 93 years old, I still like it, “ Dorothy said.

Her family had a big party for her, celebrating both her birthday and her diploma.
