Man and woman suffer minor burns while trying to escape fire that destroyed home

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- A Kansas City, Mo., home is ruined after a fire early Thursday morning.

Kansas City firefighters were dispatched to a home near 7th and Belmont just before 5:45 a.m.

When firefighters arrived on the scene, the home was completely engulfed in flames, and the man and woman who lived in the house were standing outside. The man and woman were both taken to the hospital to be treated for minor burns.

"Heavy fire showing from the front two-thirds of the structure," Battalion chief Hugh Oldham told FOX 4. "You can see the windows heavy fire showing."

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
