KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Kansas City police pursued two suspects driving a stolen car Thursday through downtown Kansas City.
Investigators say at about 12:15 p.m., they received two phone calls from people saying a woman was forced into a black Kia with Kansas license plates. Officers were just around the corner from Truman Road and Kensington when they heard the call and tried to stop the car, but police say the two suspects took off.
Capt. Gregory Williams, Kansas City, Mo. Police Dept., said at one point the woman, sitting in the back seat, let down a window and appeared to be 'screaming for help.'
The black Kia, which has Johnson County, Kansas, license plates was recently stolen in Kansas City during a carjacking.
Investigators say two male suspects sped off in the Kia, which was recently stolen in Kansas City during a carjacking. The driver and passengers went into Kansas, back into Missouri and down Kansas City's east side. Police say one of the men hopped out of the stolen car near 14th and Vine in Kansas City, Mo., but the driver kept going before officers put down stop sticks, flattening his right rear tire. It is unclear what the man hit, but the front end of the black Kia sustained serious damage.
More than a dozen officers were involved in the pursuit, and at times the suspect vehicle was traveling up to 100 mph.
"Anytime there's a pursuit, it's extremely dangerous," said Capt. Williams.
Several officers swarmed the car near West Pennway and Pennsylvania in the Crossroads area, where police handcuffed the second suspect after he pulled in towards the fire station in the area. Officers also took the woman in for questioning, and she was heard screaming at officers as she was put in a police cruiser. Sgt. Kari Thompson told FOX 4 that she knew one of the male suspects, who are now on 24-hour hold.
The woman was questioned and then left the police station. Police were not releasing or did not yet determine if the woman was in the car when the chase started or how she ended up in the car.
No one was hurt in the chase.
Police have not released if the male suspects were armed.
