KANSAS CITY, Mo. – City leaders are expected to hand over a check Tuesday to update the Central Parks facility.

The students at Central Academy were on a mission to update the sports facility across from their school and filed a petition with the city for funding and it was approved. Now they're expecting a check for $400,000.

Currently the facility has a track and football field, but they need a make-over.

The Central Park sports facility has been used by the students from Central Academy for years. 300 of those students signed a petition to get the funding to upgrade the field and it worked.

In total $1.2 million will be used to install a new track and upgrade the field to a regulation size football and soccer field with high quality turf.

The funding is one of the largest investments in a single project approved by the city's public improvement advisory committee.

The official announcement is expected to be made Tuesday at 10 a.m.

The project is set to get underway January first, it should be ready to go by the summer.
