COLUMBIA, Mo. -- Disgraced University of Missouri professor Melissa Click says she was fired from the university because of her race.

In an interview published Sunday in The Chronicle of Higher Education Click said the decision to fire her was all about, "racial politics."

She also said it was about the University Board of Curators sending a message while they were under fire from state legislators.

“I’m a white lady," Click told The Chronicle of Higher Education. "I’m an easy target.”

Click received national attention after she was seen on video calling for "some muscle" to remove student journalists from a campus protest last fall.

She was fired from her post back in February and lost an appeal of that decision in March.
