KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- An evening carjacking and shooting sent one person to the hospital with critical injuries on Friday night. The crime disturbed a neighborhood’s sense of peace near 25th and Bales, close to a popular park for kids.

Police say the responded to the scene at about 6 p.m. Neighbors say they heard a lot of gunshots and saw a red truck driving away. That was the truck that was likely stolen, and later recovered at 14th and Highland.

Police say it happened far too close to children.

"It bothers me that it happened- there is obviously a park here and there were kids out, so that would bother me yes." said Jonathan Rivers with KCPD.

Police say they do not believe the victim and suspects know each other. Police don't have much of a description of the suspects at this point, but they are still on the run and it's believed there's more than one. If you know anything about this crime, call the TIPS Hotline at (816) 474-TIPS.
