Man dies at hospital after overnight shooting near 45th and Chestnut

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — One person is dead after a shooting near Chestnut Avenue and 45th Street early Saturday.

Police responded to a report of shots fired around 3:30 a.m. Saturday. Upon arrival, officers found one man lying in the street just north of the intersection of Chestnut and 45th suffering from a gunshot wound.

After being transported to a local hospital, the victim was declared dead. Police said they believe the shooting was connected to a party at a nearby residence.

Police on Sunday identified the victim as 42-year-old Gerald Brown, of Kansas City, Mo.
