MINNEAPOLIS — The Royals placed Alex Gordon on the disabled list on Monday due to a broken scaphoid bone in his right hand.

Gordon was involved in a scary collision with Mike Moustakas in Sunday’s 3-2 loss to the White Sox.

The two collided when Chicago’s Melky Cabrera hit a fly ball into foul territory. Moustakas and Gordon crashed, leaving both players on the ground for several seconds. Gordon was shaken up with a hard fall into the tarp, and neither made the catch.

The Royals have recalled infielder Cheslor Cuthbert from Omaha. Cuthbert had been optioned after Moustakas returned from the DL on Saturday.

Moustakas was absent from Monday’s lineup against the Twins. He is considered day-to-day with a knee issue.
