OLATHE, Kan. — Lightning sparked a fire in Olathe on Monday, causing about $40,000 in damage to the home near Whitney and Chestnut.

The couple was home just before 2 p.m. when they heard a boom. The woman noticed smoke coming from the crawl space. Smoke quickly started filling the home. The family says in the meantime, they’ll move in with their mother, whose 95th birthday is today.

Firefighters were able to get the fire under control in about 25 minutes.
