EL DORADO, Kan. — A high school student born with Spina bifida and his mentor pulled off a surprise that brought the audience for El Dorado High School’s graduation to its feet for a standing ovation this weekend.
Social studies teacher Brad Raine told FOX 4 he’s known Riley Brown since he was a freshman, and this year Brown was his student aide.
In a Facebook post, Raine explained that he and Brown secretly worked together doing a combination of push-ups and stretches so that Riley could stand to receive his diploma. Brown has no feeling below his waist, making the feat quite an accomplishment.
“I was all for it. I wanted to see what we could do,” Brown told KAKE.
Raine says that Brown has plans to continue his education at Wichita Area Technical College in the fall.
