Suspect vehicle flees after passenger fires shots at SUV along 71-Highway, causes SUV to wreck

KANSAS CITY, Mo. --Kansas City police are searching for clues Tuesday morning in a drive-by shooting along 71-Highway.

Around 2:30 a.m., police were dispatched to 71-Highway and 59th Street after hearing reports of downed power lines and a wrecked SUV.

The caller described crackling sounds, which turned out to be shots fired.

Police believe three people driving a dark-colored Chevy Impala fired shots at two people in an SUV. The SUV wrecked at 59th and Agnes.

The shooter was sitting in the back of the Impala and was armed with a black handgun. Witnesses described him as a light-skinned black male.

There was no description of the driver of the Impala, but a passenger in the front seat is described as a light-skinned black female with short hair.

The canine unit was called out to look for a gun that may have been tossed out. The two people inside the SUV walked away with no injuries.

59th Street was closed from Chestnut to Agnes will officers investigated.
