PRAIRIE VILLAGE, Kan. -- In light of recent tragedies, Kansas City residents and officers have stepped up to support one another.

On Thursday, July 21 Prairie Village officers visited their local Starbucks for an event they call, "Coffee with a Cop."

Sgt. Ivan Washington could be seen letting little Nolan check out his patrol vehicle. Nolan's mom, Laura, said her one-year-old loves police vehicles due to the lights.

Laura said she enjoyed the opportunity to get to know one of her local law enforcement agents because she has never really had much interaction with them in the past.

"It's our opportunity to interact with the public, to see what's on their mind, to see what's important to them and their community," Sgt. Washington said.
