KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Before the Royals hit the field at the K to face the Rangers on Sunday, Kansas City's best college players competed in the Ban Johnson All-Star Game.
Ban Johnson is celebrating its 90th year. The league gives college baseball players the chance to play in a highly competitive summer league.
Several Royals players spent time in the Ban Johnson League including Frank White and David Cone.
Kansas City native Rick Sutcliffe played in Ban Johnson as well. He went on to be drafted as a 17-year-old out of Independence. He eventually earned the Cy Young Award and the National League Rookie of the Year.
This morning FOX 4's Carey Wickersham was out at the K to talk with Sutcliffe and some of the young All-Star players who are still hoping for a shot at the big leagues.
