Man who knocked on door and claimed he was God stabbed to death by homeowner

ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. — A man died after police say he broke into a home just outside St. Louis early Monday morning and was stabbed multiple times by the homeowner.

Police said the suspect, Adam Willoughby, stopped by the home Sunday night.

“Knocked on the door and told the homeowner that he [Willoughby] was God and was there for him. He was barefoot and when he made that comment, he just turned around and left,” said Dan Paulino, Police Chief for the Velda City Police Department.

When Willoughby came back he smashed a front window, police said. When the homeowner went to see what was going on, the suspect reportedly forced himself inside.

According to police, Willoughby had a mental illness and was not on his medication.

“The homeowner was punched numerous times in the face causing lacerations to his mouth and check. The homeowner at this point had grabbed a knife and the suspect was stabbed about seven times,” said Paulino.

Paulino said the homeowner and the suspect did not know each other.

No charges will be filled against the homeowner.
