Sticky Pig: Maple Caramel, infused with bacon, tossed in peanut butter

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Bacon is so delicious, they dedicated an entire festival and fundraiser to it. Bacon-Fest is Saturday, Aug. 26 in Gladstone, and the FOX 4 morning show got a taste of what to expect on Wednesday.  Owner of Funky Monkey Corn Company, Kimberly Gasperi, and communications coordinator, Sarah Murphy shared more on the festival as well as one of their favorite recipes.


Maple Caramel, infused with bacon, tossed in peanut butter

10 cups of popped corn


1/4 cup butter (or margarine)

1/8 cup light corn syrup

1/2 cup brown sugar

1/4 cup maple syrup

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon baking soda

1/8 cup of cooked, chopped bacon

1/4 cup of peanut butter, melted


Place popcorn in large bowl. Set aside. In a medium sauce pan, melt butter over medium heat. Carefully stir in brown sugar, corn syrup and salt. Bring to a boil, stirring constantly for 5 minutes. Remove from heat, and stir in baking soda, maple syrup and bacon. Slowly pour hot caramel mixture over popcorn, stirring coat evenly.

Place caramel mixture on two baking dishes or pans, and place in oven preheated to 250 degrees. Stir mixture every 15 minutes for an hour. Remove from oven. Allow to cool for 5 to 10 minutes. Gently break caramel corn apart, and drizzle with melted peanut butter. Enjoy!
