KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- A Lee's Summit restaurant famous for its cinnamon rolls is expanding to a second location. Neighborhood Cafe just opened at 75th and Wornall in Waldo. The original in Lee's Summit started in 1940 as a grocery, and it has been known by many names over the years. But the recipes and traditions - such as the hanging of war veterans pictures on the walls - have been carried down from previous owners. The current owner says he wanted to share their food and traditions with others in the metro and realized Waldo was the perfect spot.
"We are just a family community restaurant and so to tie into that community and to the people here and just be a part of this community is what's going to make us successful, so we're trying to continue that anyway we can and just a friendly people who have reached out to us so far, has shown us, that's what we need to be," said Tony Olson, Neighborhood Cafe Owner.
Friday is the second day they've been open and many have come from Lee's Summit to support this expansion.
"We kind of were hesitant at first but we had enough people telling us that we needed to come this direction and expand, and I needed something in this neighborhood, and once we started looking into Waldo, we really realized it was a very similar community to Lee's Summit," Olson said.
