Witnesses recount harrowing moments at 7th Heaven shooting

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Two people are dead after a shooting inside a metro business. Customers inside 7th Heaven ran for their lives as they heard more than 10 shots fired.

An employee and another person were pronounced dead on scene.

Sources tell FOX 4 this was a murder-suicide. They say a man walked into the business, shot the woman, then himself.

“He came in there and shot her in the head, then shot him in the head.”

Dozens of people were shopping inside 7th Heaven near 76th and Troost around 1 p.m. on Sunday afternoon, when a man opened fire.

“People were running out of the building crazy. Scared for their lives. People were jumping over people,” Customer Jeremiah Popplewell said.

Witnesses said more than 10 shots were fired and two people laid lifeless on the business’s floor.

“People started calling us while we were at church,” Whitney Brown said.

The metro family rushed to the scene and police told them their family member, Cheri Bland, was shot.

They gave FOX 4 a picture of her. Family said she has four kids, one of them was on scene Sunday afternoon, praying her mother would make it.

“She's kind of hurt right now; she just heard this about her mama,” Cheri’s brother Christopher Bland said.

Family said the man who shot her is the father of one of her children. They said he has been harassing her lately and she recently filed a restraining order.

Family said that restraining order set the man off, but they couldn't believe he would take it this far.

“I don't know why he would do that to her, to hurt her like that? She got four kids and one of the kids is by him anyway. Why would he shoot her like that?” Cheri’s mother Andrea Walker said.

No one else was injured in this shooting.
