There are several festivals all around the metro to kick off your Labor Day weekend.
Take a step back into history at the Santa-Cali-Gon Days Festival. This marks the 44th year and it’s already in full swing in Independence.
“It’s a lot of variety. You get jewelry, you get paintings, you get Halloween Christmas stuff, you get baby stuff. You can get something for everybody,” said Angela Cavalano who went early Friday afternoon.
There are more than 500 arts, crafts and food vendors to check out. If you’re walking too much and need a break, take a seat on one of the carnival rides. There’s also a lot to celebrate in DeSoto, Kansas.
“I think people should come and watch some of our fantastic entertainment. We have a lot more entertainment than people realize. We have a jail and bail this year which is new that the DeSoto High School football team is sponsoring,” said Loya Beery, the Chairman of the festival.
Break out your cowboy boots for the 52nd annual DeSoto Days Festival. This year’s theme is country nights and western lights. There are haystacks at every corner, a music stage and a carnival.
“A couple of young kids just barely out of high school told us yesterday, 'wow, what took you so long to come up with your country theme?' They were thrilled, they helped us work,” she said.
If it's good music, good friends, and a few pints you're looking for, head down to Kansas City's Irish Fest. Before the fun, organizers were busy setting up the seven different where more than 30 different bands will play. There’s no better way to celebrate Labor Day weekend than with the Irish.
