BLUE SPRINGS, Mo. -- Two children were killed and others were injured in a crash along eastbound I-70 near Highway-7 Monday evening.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol's online crash report, at 6:03 p.m., a Cadillac Escalade rear ended a Hyundai Elantra carrying four people, including two children, just west of Adams Dairy Parkway. The Escalade then hit an Acura TL and pushed the Acura into a Chevrolet Tahoe and Ford Escape.
The two children who were passengers in the Elantra were pronounced dead at the scene. They were 7-year-old Chloe Beaird and 13-year-old Gavin Beaird.
The driver of the Elantra, 39-year-old David C. Beaird, was transported to the hospital with serious injuries. 37-year-old Jennifer L. Beaird, also suffered serious injuries. The passengers of the Elantra were all from Warrenton, Mo.
The driver of the Escalade, 60-year-old James L. Green of Odessa, Mo., sustained minor injuries. Occupants of the Chevy Tahoe and Ford Escape were not injured.
Everyone involved in the crash was wearing a seat belt.
Investigators say they are looking into whether alcohol impairment was a factor in the crash.
