BUCKNER, Mo. — A 25-year-old man charged with child abuse and assault is accused of scalding a 7-year-old boy with bath water, and holding the victim’s head under water. The Buckner Police Department says its officers arrested Max Martin on Monday evening for incidents that allegedly happenedĀ on August 19.

Police say that officers were called to St. Mary’s Hospital on August 20 where a physician told them that the boy suffered second and third-degree burns over 30 percent of his body. He also had bruises on his face, back and neck.

A news release says that Martin admitted to pouring scalding water on the boy during baths more than once. The victim told investigators the same, and said Martin struck with his fists as well. The release doesn’t specify the relationship between the boy and the suspect.

Martin’s bond has been set at $100,000, no court dates have been announced yet.
