Skilled laborers visit Alta Vista Charter High School to share ways students can start building their careers

KANSAS CITY, Mo. --There is a serious shortage in today's workforce for skilled labor like painters and carpenters.

Thursday morning the construction industry reached out to the younger generation at Alta Vista Charter High School.

The program is called Building Our Future Here at Alta Vista Charter High School.

Contractors say it has become harder and harder to replace skilled tradesmen so they're working to introduce students and parents to the local trade unions.

Gonzalez construction led Thursday's presentation. Members from area trade unions were also in attendance to learn about careers in construction.
