KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Students and faculty members at Avila University marched in honor of students who recently lost their lives to gun violence on the International Day of Peace.
The walk was in honor of three people connected to the school. Mikell Tolbert was a nursing student. Cheri Bland had a sister at Avila. Both are victims of gun violence.
This walk was also a prayer service for Jessica Runions' safe return. She has been missing for two weeks. Her mother is a faculty member at Avila. The family showed up for the peace walk. Students gave Runions' mom a bouquet of white flowers
"I just want to let her know that everyone is here to lift her up and we are going to be behind her every step of the way no matter what. I just wanted to give her that," said student Katlin Husky.
Nearly 100 people showed up to walk in silence to end violence. They ended the peace walk with a prayer near the chapel.
