Police chase ends with crash in Raytown; one suspect dies from injuries, other still on the loose

RAYTOWN, Mo. — A police chase ended in a crash in Raytown Wednesday morning.

Police said they responded to a report of a residential robbery in the 600 block of W. 87th Street. A suspect description was sent out regarding two black males, believed to be armed with handguns, in a white four-door Pontiac Grand Am.

Two KCPD South Patrol detectives spotted a car they believed to be the suspect vehicle at 71-Highway and Bannister Road. As the detectives followed the car at low speed, the suspect driver sped up, leading to a chase at times reaching 70 – 80 miles per hour.

The chase led police south on 71-Highway, later on Bannister Road and then to Raytown Road.

The chase ended when the suspect vehicle crashed near 87th and Raytown Road. In attempting to pass an uninvolved car, the suspect driver lost control and flipped. One suspect was transported to the hospital where they later died.

Police are still looking for the other suspect, who fled the crash on foot.

Officers recovered two handguns at the scene.
