One dead, one injured after car goes into water at Blue Valley Park

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Kansas City firefighters and police officers were at Blue Valley Park on Friday night where one man died and another was critically hurt after their car plunged into Bales Lake.

The emergency call went out at about 8:30 p.m. near 24th and Topping. Police told FOX 4's Megan Brilley at the scene a male driver in his 20's was speeding down Topping and eventually crashed into the body of water near the road. They also say he hit a tree and some large rocks, the impact killing him.

The victim with critical injuries was also a man in his 20's, and was able to speak to rescue workers in an ambulance when they left for a hospital.
