KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Police are on the scene of a homicide that occurred Monday afternoon.

Investigators responded to a report of gunshots at an apartment complex at 93rd Street and Bales Avenue around 2 p.m.

One victim was transported to an area hospital, where he died of his injuries.

Police on Wednesday identified the victim as 21-year-old Keith M. Johnson, of Kansas City, Mo.

"There children are getting out of school, getting off the bus, and looking at crime scene tape. It's not something that we want our children to have to see witness," Sgt. Kari Thompson with the Kansas City Police Department said. "These parents have a big job for them tonight. They children are going to be asking, 'what happened, mommy and daddy, in our neighborhood?'"

The police is working with the apartment complex. They are trying to hear from witnesses to determine what led up to this deadly shooting.

There is no suspect information at this time.

This is the city's 90th homicide. That number was in the 70s around this time last year.
