Driver killed in crash near 39th and Bellefontaine leaves behind son

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — One person died in a crash on Kansas City’s east side Sunday.

The crash happened around 3 a.m., near 39th and Bellefontaine. Police say a car heading east on 39th Street ran off the road and slammed into a tree.

The driver, identified on Monday as 33-year-old Christopher L. Franklin of Kansas City, Mo., died at the scene. Franklin’s sister says her brother was out celebrating his birthday with a friend at the time of his death. His sister also says Franklin loved life and was looking forward to starting his own automotive sales shop. The 33-year-old leaves behind a 15-year-old son.

A passenger was taken to the hospital and is listed in serious but stable condition.

Police have not yet released the cause of  the crash.
