KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Kansas City firefighters were able to put out flames at a vacant home early Monday morning before they spread to neighboring homes and caused additional damage.

Firefighters were dispatched to a home in the 4600 block of  Chestnut near Emanuel Cleaver around 5:30 a.m .

A neighbor reported hearing an explosion before the home burst into flames, but fire officials say there is no evidence of an explosion during their initial investigation.

Firefighters did say the fire was intense and half of the back of the home was engulfed in flames.

No one was home during the fire.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
