Man escapes Mo. Corrections Dept. custody by scaling onto roof during recreation time

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A warrant has been issued for the arrest of a 43-year-old prisoner who escaped custody Sunday afternoon by scaling onto the roof of the main building at the Kansas City Reentry Center, 651 Mulberry, in the West Bottoms area.

Brian Deconink is serving a five-year sentence for possession of a controlled substance in a correctional center from DeKalb County. He has already served time for other offenses including: the sale of a controlled substance, second-degree burglary, stealing, second-degree robbery, two counts of armed criminal action, property damage, and resisting arrest from Jackson County. He has a parole date of March 21, 2017.

Authorities say Deconink received help onto the roof from another offender.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol and local law enforcement are assisting with this case.

Deconink is a 43-year-old white male who is 6-foot-1, 170 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes. If you see him, please contact local law enforcement or the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
